The 6th Annual Rockin’ Run is finally here! As we kick off the day, despite the rain, we’re sharing all the information you need to enjoy the best race and Family Fun Festival yet.
Running the Race, Rain or Shine
After over a week of rain, and now a hurricane, we’ve made sure that the Rockin’ Run will go on no matter what the weather throws at us. The Southern Village Green is decked out in tons of tents ready to house our live auction, registration and packet pick up table, all of our awesome activities, and, most importantly, you! Speaking of registration, if you didn’t make Wednesday’s online deadline no worries–we’ve got day of registration starting at 1 PM where our awesome Pit Crew will be ready to sign you up for the day’s events! If you did register in advance, be sure to stop by the table to pickup your t-shirt (if you registered by Sept. 11th!) and your info packet at the same spot. Then it’s off you go to the day’s events!
Kickin’ Off the Rockin’ Run
After you’ve grabbed your registration packet, stop by the Food Truck Alley when it opens at 2 PM for awesome food from local favorites Al’s Burger Shack, Bull City Street Food, Chirba Chirba Dumpling, Dusty Donuts and Kona Ice Kabana!
We’re excited to once again welcome the Bouncing Bulldogs to perform as we open the race, catch them at 2:15 PM on the Green! Though the Bulldogs are a tough act to follow, our MC Eric Montross will have to try as he kicks off the event at 2:45 PM before the first event, the Family Bike Race!
See You at the Starting Line
The Rockin’ Run has an option for everyone, whether you want to walk, run, or bike your way through Southern Village, the Super Cooper starting line has a spot for you! The Family Bike Race starts at 3 PM and is followed immediately by the Chipped 5K at 3:30, both starting at the Green.
When the race concludes at 4 PM the party begins at the Family Fun Festival!
Under the Tents
After running, walking, or biking your way through the Rockin’ Run, it’s time to celebrate! The Food Truck Alley will still be going strong so grab some food and a beer from one of our awesome vendors and take a tour of the tents. The silent auction runs from 2PM to 4:30PM so be sure to stop by and bid on some incredible items!
The Festival always has tons of activities for every member of the family and this year is no different! For the 6th Annual event we have a mobile game truck, mechanical bull, fairy hair and face painting, and the “Wizzer”–a super fun spinning ride! On top of that we’ve also added an amazing roaming juggler and a magician to keep you entertained all afternoon.
MC Eric Montross returns at 4:30PM for the Live Auction and Super Cooper update. Here are just a few of the amazing auction items up for grabs:
-Dinner for 2 at the newly renovated Crossroads Restaurant and an overnight stay at the Carolina Inn!
-A trip to Chicago with airfare for 4, transportation from your Friday/Saturday night downtown hotel, and 4 Club Game tickets to a Saturday night Cubs game with a pre-game player meet & greet!
-Lower level seats for the UNC v Maryland game, parking pass included, and an invitation to attend the Tarheel’s practice the day before!
This year we’ll be trying to once again #WhipCancer with the longest whipped cream train EVER! Always a highlight of the day for kids and adults alike, this year we’re challenging you to take a pie to the face and #WhipCancer. Can we beat last year’s record? There’s only one way to find out!
The Finish Line
After a full day of racing, eating, bidding, playing, and just having fun with your friends, family, and community, it’s time to close out the night with a performance from crowd favorite Skinny Bag of Sugar! They’ll take the stage towards the end of the evening so stick around for great live music on the Green.
Why We Run
Because of your continued generosity, in just the last six months we have supported more than 35 families with housing, food, gas cards and parking. Through the funds raised at the annual Rockin’ Run we are able to not only continue but grow our level of support for these families as they seek life saving treatment here in the Triangle.
Just think of what a blessing it is and how awesome it feels to know that you are giving these families a chance to fight for their baby’s life by taking away the financial stress that comes with a cancer diagnosis. Please consider joining us today for the Rockin’ Run and Family Fun Festival or, if you’re unable to join us in person, consider donating here. Thank you for your continued support and see you this afternoon for the 6th Annual Race, rain or shine!
